Central Otago District Council

Confused

Q1: Do you provide communal single-sex changing and showering facilities?

Yes.

Q2: Do you provide single occupancy changing and showering facilities? If so, how many at each site?

Yes. We have two single-occupancy accessible and family changing rooms at both our all season pools at Alexandra and Cromwell. Our summer pool in Roxburgh has one single-occupancy accessible/ family room. Our summer pool in Ranfurly does not have any single-occupancy changing rooms.

Q3: Please provide any policies or procedures that apply to trans-identified people who wish to use the changing and showering facilities in your sites.

Trans-identified users are welcome to use our single-use accessible and family changing rooms. These private spaces are provided to ensure clarity, comfort and safety for all facility users.

Q4: How are your different changing and showering facilities labelled and described?

Communal areas are labelled Male and Female. Our single-use rooms are signed as Accessible/Family or Gender Inclusive Rooms. We also use gender neutral signage on these private rooms, shown with a half-male, half-female figure to make it clear they are inclusive.

Q5: At your sites, which changing room and showering facilities is a trans-identified male permitted to use?

Family/accessible/inclusive change rooms.

Q6: If applicable, do your facilities allow trans-identifying males to attend Women Only swim sessions?

We have recently introduced a Women’s Wellness programme, which has run twice so far. These sessions are currently for women only, as the programme was not originally designed with trans-inclusive participation in mind, however this is a great idea, and we will take into consideration to investigate the need and how this may work.

Our Verdict

So close, Central Otago! We were happy until the last comment about trans-inclusive participation. They haven't yet implemented it so make sure your voice is heard!
