Q1: Do you provide communal single-sex changing and showering facilities?
The Gore District Council owns and operates the Gore Aquatic Centre and Mataura Licencing Trust Event Centre. Within that facility, there are two individual family change spaces that can also be used by any individual that needs a space to change and shower. One of these spaces provides for disabilities.
Q2: Do you provide single occupancy changing and showering facilities? If so, how many at each site?
Yes
Q3: Please provide any policies or procedures that apply to trans-identified people who wish to use the changing and showering facilities in your sites.
None
Q4: How are your different changing and showering facilities labelled and described?
Our change rooms are labelled as the following Male / Tane, Female / Wāhine, Disabled Change / Ruma Whakahaua and Family Change / Ruma Whanau.
Q5: At your sites, which changing room and showering facilities is a trans-identified male permitted to use?
not answered
Q6: If applicable, do your facilities allow trans-identifying males to attend Women Only swim sessions?
The Aquatic Centre does not offer ‘women only’ swim sessions at our facility, nor are there any policies or procedures that apply to trans-identified people who wish to use the changing and showering facilities at the aquatic centre, including a specific policy that identifies a changing room and showering facilities that a trans-identified male permitted to use.
Our Verdict
It seems Gore DC hasn't thought through the trans scenario and therefore women are at risk.
