Council’s approach is to provide safe, inclusive services and to not discriminate. Trans people are welcome to use the changing and showering facilities that align with their gender identity. Gender‑neutral and accessible options are also available for anyone who prefers additional privacy. Our approach is guided by Council’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion framework and by New Zealand’s human rights guidance. Copies of relevant Council documents can be provided on request.

Our facilities are labelled as:
“Male Changing Room”
“Female Changing Room”

A trans male (a person who identifies as male) may use the male changing and showering facilities, or the gender‑neutral/accessible option—whichever they prefer.
Similarly, a trans woman (a person who identifies as female) may use the female changing and showering facilities, or the gender‑neutral/accessible option—whichever they prefer.
Q6: If applicable, do your facilities allow trans-identifying males to attend Women Only swim sessions?
Yes. Trans women are welcome to attend Women‑Only swim sessions, consistent with our inclusion and non‑discrimination policy. All standard codes of conduct and customer safety requirements apply to everyone.
