Q1: Do you provide communal single-sex changing and showering facilities?

Yes

Q2: Do you provide single occupancy changing and showering facilities? If so, how many at each site?

Yes. There are 12 at the Lido Aquatic Centre, 2 at Freyberg pool and 1 at Splashhurst.

Q3: Please provide any policies or procedures that apply to trans-identified people who wish to use the changing and showering facilities in your sites.

Community Leisure Management advise that they follow the Recreation Aotearoa Guidelines. The guidelines are publicly available online.

Q4: How are your different changing and showering facilities labelled and described?

All sites have male and female changing rooms and are labelled as such. In addition, the following facilities provide non-gendered changing rooms:
Lido: Changing Rooms 1,2,3 and Whānau Changing Rooms 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 (anyone can use)
Freyberg: Three changing rooms labelled Changing Rooms 1,2,3 (anyone can use)
Splashhurst: One changing room labelled Changing Room (anyone can use)

Q5: At your sites, which changing room and showering facilities is a trans-identified male permitted to use?

A trans-identified male is permitted to use the male changing room, or any non-gendered/all-user changing room available at the facility (e.g. “Changing Rooms” or “Whānau Changing Rooms”).

Q6: If applicable, do your facilities allow trans-identifying males to attend Women Only swim sessions?

Women-only swim lessons are offered and trans males are not permitted to attend.

Our Verdict

More confusion - what do PNCC think the term trans-identifying male means? They follow the RA guidelines so their answers are at odd with that advice.
