Porirua City Council has two aquatic centres. One aquatic center has three private changing
cubicles. ln the second aquatic center there is one.

Porirua City Council's position for trans-identified people's use of changing facilities is:
The decision to exclude transgender women from women's bathrooms is governed under discrimination law, under the Human Rights Act '1993 and the New Zealand Bill of Rights Act 1990. lt is currently accepted that it is unlawful to exclude transwomen from women's bathrooms and transgender men from men's bathrooms and to do so would be discrimination on the basis of 'sex'. lt is the accepted position by the government agencies, Human Rights Commission and other public bodies.
Porirua City Council does not exclude:
(a) transgender women from using women's changing rooms.
(b) transgender men from using men's changing rooms; or
(c) any individuals using the facility they feel most comfortable in or any available gender-neutral or private options.
This position is in line with Recreation Aotearoa's Trans and Gender Diverse Guidance for Exercise and Recreation.

We name our changing facilities as below:
Men's changing rooms
Women's changing rooms
Family rooms and private cubicles
Accessibility changing room
Q5: At your sites, which changing room and showering facilities is a trans-identified male permitted to use?
All people, including trans and gender diverse people, have the right to use toilets, changing rooms, showers, appropriate to their gender

We do not deliver women only swim sessions.
