Q1: Do you provide communal single-sex changing and showering facilities?
Yes
Q2: Do you provide single occupancy changing and showering facilities? If so, how many at each site?
In response to part 1-2.
The Richmond Aquatic and Fitness Centre located at 161 Salisbury Road in Richmond is the only swimming pool and fitness facility owned by Tasman District Council. It is operated on our behalf by Community Leisure Management (CLM).
The facility provides separate women’s and men’s changing rooms. Each room includes:
Private shower areas
Private toilet cubicles
Communal changing space
The women’s changing room contains 4 separate toilets, 3 separate showers divided by shower curtain and three closed off changing areas as well as a communal changing area.
The men’s changing room contains 2 separate toilets, 3 urinals, 3 separate showers divided by shower curtain and three closed off changing areas as well as a communal changing area.
There are also 5 individual unisex/family rooms which have there own shower facilities.
Q3: Please provide any policies or procedures that apply to trans-identified people who wish to use the changing and showering facilities in your sites.
There are no policies or procedures held that apply to trans-identified people who wish to use the changing and showering facilities at this centre.
Q4: How are your different changing and showering facilities labelled and described?
The women’s and men’s communal single sex changing rooms are labelled in te reo Māori as Wahine (women) and Tāne (men). When entering from the poolside, signage displays male and female icons similar to those commonly seen on public toilet doors, without accompanying text.
Q5: At your sites, which changing room and showering facilities is a trans-identified male permitted to use?
Any or all
Q6: If applicable, do your facilities allow trans-identifying males to attend Women Only swim sessions?
There are no women-only swim sessions at the complex. All swimming sessions are open to everyone; however, some sessions are designed to cater to specific age groups or swimming ability levels.
Our Verdict
"Any or all" says it all, men have full access to everything.
