Confused

Q1: Do you provide communal single-sex changing and showering facilities?

Clubfit Gym - Yes
Aquatics - Yes

Q2: Do you provide single occupancy changing and showering facilities? If so, how many at each site?

Clubfit Gym - Accessible shower/change/toilet only at Baywave = 1

Baywave = 11
3 x with showers and toilets
5 x with just showers
4 without showers or toilets

Greerton = 4
4 x with showers and toilets

Otumoetai = 1
1 x with shower and toilets

Q3: Please provide any policies or procedures that apply to trans-identified people who wish to use the changing and showering facilities in your sites.

While we do not currently have any formal customer policies and procedures in this regard, Bay Venues and Tauranga City Council are committed to Tauranga being an inclusive city that recognises and respects everyone, including those in our trans community. We work with and support all our customers to feel safe and comfortable in our facilities and we have a range of changing and showering options available, including:

Open single-sex change rooms with partitions for increased privacy
Single user cubicles within single-sex change rooms for further privacy
Single user change rooms outside of single-sex change rooms

Q4: How are your different changing and showering facilities labelled and described?

Clubfit Gyms- Male, Female, Accessible
Aquatic – Male, Female, Family, Disability

Q5: At your sites, which changing room and showering facilities is a trans-identified male permitted to use?

See Question 3 response above.

‼️ SUFW Note: we have asked for a more specific answer to this question.

Bay Venues response: We confirm that we do not have a specific policy relating to trans customers use of changing facilities. We offer gender neutral changing options in most of our facilities and have not had any issues of note in relation to this.

Q6: If applicable, do your facilities allow trans-identifying males to attend Women Only swim sessions?

Not applicable

Our Verdict

Bay Venues don't seem keen on being overly specific about which of their facilities are available to trans identifying males. Their signage needs to be looked at to reflect their "inclusive" policy.
