Speak Up For Women held its first meeting in Wellington on Thursday 6th September 2018.

Discussing concerns about the proposed changes to the Births, Deaths, Marriages and Relationships Registration Act (BDMRR Act) in New Zealand, Georgina Blackmore and Guest Speaker from Lesbian Rights Alliance Aotearoa, Charlie Montague speak about the lack of democratic process and absence of consideration by the Government into the potential unintended consequences on women’s rights that could result if changing the sex marker on birth certificates is possible on the basis of self-identification, alone.
